Ballyshear Golf Links (Ban Rakat Club)
About
Spectacular members' only links course from legendary designer Gil Hanse
Conveniently located 40 minutes from downtown Bangkok and just 25 minutes from Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Ballyshear Golf Links is a magical 18-hole links course set on the former location of Kiarti Thanee Country Club. A private members course exclusively available to members of the Ban Rakat Club, it pays homage to America’s The Lido Golf Club, which closed during World War II and has since acquired the status of a golfing Camelot among those who love great courses.
A vintage-style course that is sure to captivate Thai golfers, Ballyshear offers the pure essence of links golf, featuring expansive water areas, undulating greens, and strategically placed blind shots. The guidance of a caddie is invaluable for navigating Ballyshear and achieving a good score.
Like the Lido, the course bases each of its 18 holes on a landmark hole somewhere else in golf’s universe. The fiendishly tilted green of North Berwick’s Redan hole is the basis for Ballyshear’s 16th, the 3rd echoes the well-guarded Eden Hole at St Andrews shows up in the 3rd, the gully bisecting the green at the 8th is inspired by Biarrit, and the famous blind approach at Pretwick's 17th is also immortalised at the 10th. It's heady stuff.
The ultra-modern clubhouse, a stark contrast to the old-school links layout, was designed by the esteemed architect firm Kengo Kuma & Associates, with plush locker rooms and everything you would expect from a course of this calibre. With a hotel development and a state-of-the-art practice facility in the works, Ballyshear Golf Links (Ban Rakat Club)'s world class status is sure to be enhanced.
