Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club
About
Affordable and enjoyable Arnold Palmer design by the sea
The only Arnold Palmer-designed course in Thailand and often blessed with cooling sea breezes, Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club presents an opportunity to score well provided the wind isn't too high. Unlike many newly opened golf courses which look bare and open, Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club has been open long enough for the trees to mature, which together with the wonderful flowers on display throughout, make this course a joy to play.
Although close to the sea, you won’t find too many water hazards on the course, and despite the wide fairway of the 1st offering a gentle start, it's not all plain sailing. The 3rd is a dogleg right with water all along one side and an elevated, heavily contoured green protected by five bunkers, while the 5th is another scenic dogleg with water along the right, a cluster of fairway bunkers at the apex of the dogleg, and a narrow two-tier green with bunkers in front and behind.
Other highlights include the 11th, the longest par 3 on the course, which usually plays into the prevailing wind to a green protected by three menacing bunkers. The 13th is a long par-5 whose green is circled by seven bunkers, while our favourite, the 17th, features a narrow landing zone with water and bunkers along the right, and a green that's protected with water left and OB right.
Some fairways are a little worn and could do with some work, and the course can be difficult to find, but the cheap green fees that make this course so popular with the locals are more than enough to compensate for such minor gripes.
Reviews
Great, out of the way quiet course.
I visited on a Tuesday, fairly quiet in the afternoon with not many groups. Good layout, true greens, wide playable fairways. Staff was hospitable and accommodating for every need including caddie change at the beginning, to help with taxi arrangements when finished.Windy course
Course with wide and flat fairway, but windy as it is near seashore. We very appreciate for the help from the receptionist who offered a ride to BTS for returning to Bangkok City as no grab to come at the evening time even the golf course location is near Airport. Advance booking of transportation is suggested. And, taking BTS for returning to Bangkok City is highly recommended to avoid traffic jam at the evening time this is always a mess in Bangkok.Good and fun course with minor upgrades needed
Was very pleased with the conditions of the course and caddies were really helpful. Was a little disappointed we could not share carts, but the real let down was we not informed that we cannot share carts until we were already about to tee off so there was a rush to run back to the club house to buy tickets for the rest of our group.Course Info
