Lakewood Country Club
About
Enjoyable if unspectacular parkland course
Located near Bangkok city center, Lakewood Golf Club is a pleasant, mostly flat course that features a vast expanse of green space that's home to 45 plant species and 2,000 trees. The course consists of three nines, Lake, Wood and Rock, all similarly designed with subtle doglegs, slightly undulating greens, and water features on a few holes.
The Bermuda grass fairways are wide and although generally well-maintained, can be somewhat spongy, meaning the course often plays longer than its indicated yardage. The rough is typical Bermuda rough, and during the rainy season, becomes so dense that the penalty for finding it becomes pretty harsh, with a lofted club often required to get back on the fairway.
Lakewood offers a good golfing experience, and some of the par-3 holes are excellent and compare favorably to the best in Bangkok. The seventh hole on the Wood nine, in particular, requires a well-placed tee shot left of the huge lateral water hazard that stretches across the fairway.
The Rock nine is probably the best, although with water featuring on every hole, it's a challenge to score well, not least with the nervy approach required to what is essentially an island green at the last hole.
The luxurious club house features an extensive locker room with Jacuzzi and Sauna as well as a pro shop with all the latest golf gear and decent food options.
While Lakewood Country Club is slightly more expensive than some other courses in the area due to its relative proximity to Bangkok city center and the Suvarnabhumi Airport, as well as its popularity among Asian expatriate members, it offers friendly service and a pleasant parkland layout.
Reviews
Little challenged aged course
We played wood and lake course. Wood is very windy so it’s greatly affected the distance and lake is much more challenges. Caddies are weak in English and lazy.Surprising good course
NIce course layout and good conditions, especially the greens, which were fast and true. The caddies were very good.A great afternoon of golf played on Rock and Wood courses
there are 3 nine holes, but I have only played here once. We played Rock and Wood and the course, for the time of year, was in good condition. This time of year (July) is when Thai courses do a lot of work on the courses but what was good was even where the greens had been repaired they ran true adn smoothly. For the money well worth a visit.Course Info
