The Pine Golf and Lodge
About
Affordable and unpretentious parkland course an hour from Bangkok
Located in the northern suburbs of Bangkok, The Pine Golf & Lodge is a great-value 18-hole golf course set in a picturesque natural environment with stunning views, about an hour's drive from downtown. The par-72 course stretches 6,917 yards is surrounded by a vast lake and features countless large pine trees framing many holes. The wind frequently comes into play and affects club selection, while the large flattish greens contrast with the slower putting surfaces.
Some of the most noteworthy holes include the 9th, the longest par-4 at The Pine, where the bunker on the right side of the green creates a challenging second shot, and the hillier green adds to the difficulty. The signature hole, the 12th, is a 140-yard par-3 with a pond on the left and a bunker on the right. If the pin is on the left, it requires a brave shot from the tee-off, making it a thrilling hole to play.
The final two holes are possibly the most challenging, with a tough carry over water required to find the putting surface on the 17th and water in play all the way along the 18th, where water runs the entire length of the hole. After a tee shot over water, your approach must flirt with the lake and avoid the greenside bunker to stand a chance at par.
The clubhouse offers a good selection of food options but is not as grand as many of the other clubhouses in Bangkok. Simple it may be, with slight old-fashioned interior designs, but golfers can get everything they need after a round here. There's also a 3-star golf resort located next to the golf course, offering 27 comfortable rooms in a peaceful and relaxing environment.
Although The Pine Golf & Lodge is remote and by no means the best-kept course in Bangkok, the affordable green fees make it a popular choice for golfers who are willing to drive the extra distance for a day of golf in the countryside.
Reviews
Average condition but good value for money
It takes about an hour to get here from the center of Bangkok and when I was there is was packed out with Japanese & Koreans. It plays quite long, even from the white tees. The fairways are not in great condition and the greens were patchy and the ball did not roll very well. However, it’s one of the cheapest courses in the Bangkok area so offers good value if you are not a very serious golfer.Course Info
